Memory Cassette - “Last One Awake (Friend Version)”

It’s seems like it’s been raining non-stop in DC for the past two months.  We’ve had a few lovely breaks from it, but overall, it’s starting to get to me.  I really need to spend some time on a beach and get some sun and just decompress.  When I finally get there, I might listen to this song over and over again.

Memory Cassette myspace here.

Note: This band seems to go by like three or four different names, but I used Memory Cassette because it’s what the mp3 is labelled as.

YACHT - “Psychic City”

I’ve linked to stuff by these guys before, but this is from their forthcoming second album.  This is one of the few bands out of Portland that I actually like.

Max Raabe und das Palast Orchester - “Kein Schwein Ruft Mich An”

The deal with these guys is that they try to recreate the sounds of German cabaret in the 20’s and 30’s.  However, this song was written by Raabe himself in 1992.  I’m posting it because it made my day.  Never have I heard the theme of feeling sorry for one’s self expressed in a such a charming way.  Enjoy!

The Magistrates - “Make This Work”

I’m liking the more R&B influenced bands coming out right now, and seriously wish I was in one.  Chalk it up to my obsession with Hall and Oates or what have you, but I will definitely have this playing at my next cookout.

Download this song as an mp3 here.

DJ Cobra Krames - “Choose You”

Ok, time for the main event.  I LOVE soul.  I LOVE clubby music.  This dude combined the two and damn, I LOVE IT.  Good tunage to get you ready for the weekend.

Matthew Barber - “One Little Piece of My Love”

I’ll be honest, I don’t normally dig Canadians playing country music, but this guy seems alright.  I think I liked the song better the first time I heard than I do now listening to it again as I write this, but hey, have a listen anyway.

Dead Man’s Bones - “Name In Stone”

Some actor named Ryan Gosling is apparently in this band.  Since I really know nothing about movies / actors (srsly, it’s embarassing) that fact doesn’t really do anything for me.  However, I thought the song was kinda cool with a fun chorus, so I thought I’d go ahead an post it, enjoy!
